What made 3D Virtual set design possible?
The last half a century has seen the possibilities of what can be achieved through video production evolve at an alarming degree. Just 50 years ago, the birth of the personal computer was still in its infancy, displaying rudimentary graphics and inputs and demands limited to a keyboard and command prompt.
The very idea of a computer-generated 3D environment wasn’t even a graspable concept to most. But Disney changed this in 1982 with the release of the film Tron at the box office. At the time, it was the first film to fully incorporate CGI into film seamlessly. Although its 20 minutes of CGI sets are primitive by today’s standards, the film is the fore founder of modern CGI as we know it, making the immersive worlds of the likes of James Camerons Avatar and 3D virtual sets possible.
That’s really the essence of 3D application. Its effectively has no limitations – with the only limitation being an individual’s creativity and technical know-how (luckily, we have a lot of both at Kensa!).
